What's the best way to tell someone you need to explain something to them?

Question - (25 December 2008) 1 Answers - (Newest, 26 December 2008)
A female Australia age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I have to tell a guy something. We were seeing each other, not any more. friends... apparrently.

What's the best way to say I need to talk to you - without saying "I need to talk"?

Does "I have something I need to explain to you?" or "I need to explain something to you" or "hey can we talk, I gotta explain something to you?" sound best?

I don't want him to think I'm trying to "get his attention" or "make a drama".

This will be via text message.

Any other suggestions

A reader, anonymous, writes (26 December 2008):

'hey, do you have a minute to talk?'

'can we talk about _________?'

Any of these would still tend to get my heart pounding especially via text, but maybe I'm just paranoid.
