My boyfriend also has low self esteem. We were so happy our senior year in high school its just I'm loosing interest now, but we've also been through so much and he really understands me.

 It's hard but if you lose that passion at this point in the relatioship it is best just to end it before it drags out. I don't think at any point should that passion dissapear although it may fade when you are older.
I had this problam with an ex gf when I still loved her but it was too much like one person just caring that the other is doing well and not a loving relationship.
You don't want to be with years later and then realize that he is really only a friend to you.
