A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

what kind of birthday gift do you get a guy friend, who you are madly in love with, but don't want to make things awkward? He's into working out, being active, six flags, math, and (i know you'll laugh) he's a male cheerleader, a damn good one i might add.

but i don't know what to get him, we had a falling out a couple of months ago and we've been patching things up for about 2months so i want to get him something good but nothing too extravagant.

A male reader, LazyGuy Netherlands +, writes (13 November 2008):

LazyGuy agony auntGiftcard... oh boy. Every woman and every wel trained circus monkey, sorry married/committed male, will roll their eyes at this.

Giftcards are a perfect way of saying "couldn't give a shit but had to do something". They are fine for say a temp employee who you only managed to figure out likes say music or books etc etc but not for someone you are madly in love with. Unless you want to send the message "I am not and never will be intrested in you even if you were the last man on earth, piss off".

Not that I got a good suggestion for you, I am male and dread gift giving because you don't have to get gift for men (silent male code, I don't expect a gift from you if you don't expect a gift from me) and women's intrest are impossible or at least not very intresting to figure out.

But a giftcard definitly is not the way to go.

Give him what you think he might like and if it is a bit akward, well that is life. Maybe the akwardness can jumpstart the relation?
