 Well have you asked him what he wants to talk about ? Find out what hes interested in and mention things you know he likes.. when he mentions something to you try and make a conversation yourself about what he has mentioned. Read the news that day and mention something along those lines... im not sure what the prob is here ? Try and find thigs you both have in common and talk about them, maybe talk about a film you have seen something like that he see if hes seen it, things like that... you can talk about anything, doesnt matter what it is, im sure hes got an opionion about it somewhere along the line!

Are you talking about talking to each other at work or at home ? At work i would suggest talking about normal work things etc and if a topic of conversation crops up try and join in with it. If your talking about when you two are not at work, i would suggest talking about anything but work tee hee... maybe chat breifly about the day get it all out.. and then later on just talk about everyday normal things. How close do you work together and what sort of things is it that you would be wanting to talk about ? I presume there are quite a few others that work there two, so it shouldnt have to be about the two of you, work is exactly that work, doesnt matter that you work together doesnt mean you have to talk to each other all the time plenty of time for that when your at home. Treat him as you would any other person in the work place, you guys know your together so it shouldnt really matter.
