We used to talk about anything but now we act like we don't even know each other!

Question - (17 March 2011) 2 Answers - (Newest, 17 March 2011)
A female Singapore age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I was good friends with a classmate of mine since 16. When we were 17, we went to different classes but we still kept in contact. However, towards the end of the year, she suddenly stopped contacting me. I thought it was rather abrupt but I thought it was due to homework. But as weeks became months, it became evident she didn't want to speak to me anymore. I don't even know why but I think she thinks that I'm a flirt. I do admit I get attention from guys every now and then but I don't always respond to them. Yet, she on the other hand cheated on her bf once. I feel quite upset that we used to be able to talk about everything under the sun but nowadays in school we pretend we don't know each other anymore. I feel stifled by her prescence. What should I do?

A reader, anonymous, writes (17 March 2011):

It is unfortunate that people lose touch this way..the only thing I have done in this situation is go on with my life and let her be the way she wants to be. If it is really bothering you, you could say it has been awhile since you both hung out and go to lunch or something and see what she says. If she does not have time then at least you made that last effort to show you do care and open to a friendship and let her come to you. When one friendship stagnates, there is always someone waiting to value and appreciate you and the friendship you have to offer...everything changes and the only thing you can do is be happy and keep a smile on your face despite what others think. It really is not worth it in the end?

kaykay1989 agony auntIt's a shame this has happened. I would suggest to see if you can pull her aside and talk to her calmly and tell her you feel like you've drifted apart and ask if you have done anything to offend her? and tell her how this is affecting you.If you can message her or write her a letter if all else fails and she doesn't want to talk then maybe shes not worth having as a friend anyway.:)
