reader, anonymous, writes (12 December 2008): In your first sentence you gave a bunch of reasons as to why you don't think you should say goodbye to him. So then...don't. If he happens to to find out from others, or if you are telling others in a group and he's there, then that's ok. But don't take him aside and tell him. It sounds like by saying goodbye to him, you are looking for some validation, something from him. But the way you describe him, you know that's not going to happen. So your motive for doing this is 'manipulative'...it's a way to get him to notice you. And...he's got a gf, he's otherwise involved with someone else. Do you think noticing you..will happen? So why chase this fantasy of something, you know you won't have. Leave it alone, quietly go to Scotland and forget about him.
Move on to meet new people there.. start circulating and keep your eyes open. Maybe one of those handsome scottish lads will be looking for you! Have fun, let go of this and just live your life to the absolute fullest. Take Care!
