Give up? You've not even tried yet. Don't give up until you've tried.
1 - He at least knows your name, so that's better than nothing. Get talking to him.
2 - Right now he doesn't have a girlfriend, so maybe he's waiting for the right girl.
So, the point is that before you give up, you need to get talking to him more and become friends and see how far that can lead. There is hope.
