 Absolutely don't be hurtful and do it over text/ phone. At least give him the courtesy of telling him in person... Just tell him you fell that you need to see other people, and if he wants you guy can be friends.. Just say it's hard to just see one person and you want to experience dating, and that you hope he understands. Definitely DO NOT have a friend break up with him for you.

 Well why do you want to break up with him? But you should do it in his face because a text will make him feel like hes not important and if yall break up through a text yall probably wont be friends afterwards
