As an adult, I am still living in a dilemma whether I should express my interest to them first or remain indifferent and wait for them to make a move.  If you see a girl you like you can smile and be friendly but tell them you're not into anything heavy and just want to have some fun. That way you're letting them know right from the word go what to expect.
