Hi--I was wondering about the birth control pill. I had three main questions:

Should I take ny pill early in the morning or later in the day?

Should you take the pill with food?

Should I anticipate a change in my diet with taking the pill?

Thanks a lot

A female reader, MarthaZ +, writes (4 March 2006):

MarthaZ agony auntFor you first question, take your pill when you feel you wouldn't forget the most. Get into a routine like take the pill straight after breakfast, or when I get home from school/work etc. As soon as the routine is set it's pretty permanant. When you first start taking, maybe get your watch or an alarm set at certain time everyday, so when it goes off that's the time for you to take the pill.

Secondly, food consumption and the pill doesn't interact so don't worry about food and the pill.

Thirdly some women found they eat a little more as they start taking the pill. And some women report no change in their diet. So this is all down to the individuals and there is no way you can predict that. All you can do is watch what you eat. Mostly eat healthily and exercise often, then the pill shouldn't have any physical effect on you.

If you have any questions on the pill and its side effect or anything else, it may be best talking to your doctors who can give information and leaflets on these.
