Pregnant, keeping the baby, and want to stay in school

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I'm 17 and pregnant (due to failure of the pill) and i've decided to keep the baby. However, I really REALLY want to continue with my education, i'm predicted 3 A's and a B this year at AS level and so I really want to do my A2's. Apparently at my school there's a girl who was in a similar situation to me, who came back in september, left a month before her due date, was given work from the school to keep her up to date, and then came back about a month after the birth whilst a member of her family looked after the baby during school hours. I just needed some people's thoughts on this as to whether you think it could work?

TasteofIndia agony auntWow, girlfriend. You are one tough, smart cookie!! Good for you and congratulations on the little one on the way.

YES, you can absolutely finish school. It will be hard work, very hard, but with your attitude and a will to succeed and the extra incentive for doing it for the baby, all of that will come together and you WILL do it! Just don't give up that determination and you'll be graduating with great scores. Talk to your teachers and family and they will be able to support you and help you complete your education.

Good luck, sweetness and stay strong!

You can do anything you want with a baby... it's just going to be twice the work on half the sleep.

Talk to your school. I am sure they don't want a promising student like you to fall by the wayside and end up in a council flat on the dole for the rest of your life.

There may be funding available to put the kid in a nursery or anything like that.

Talk to your school and they will know all the details. I think this is one of these things that varies by school and by county so you'd have to chat to the people locally and find out.

If you are bright and you work hard you can still do very well in life with a baby... it's just not going to be as easy or fun as it would have been as before.

Good Luck!! xx

Yes it would work and it's very admirable of you continuing with your studies, actually making a future for you and your new baby. You deserve a lot of credit and seem to have a very supportive family. Best of luck with your exams and the new baby. You'll be fine, you sound like a very responsible lady who will succeed. Keep that spirit and dream in mind and you will be fine honey.

I wish you all the best and keep me updated
