Has he been like this before?
I say sit him down and talk to him about it. Say you don't know where you stand which is even more emotionally difficult because your hormones are all over the place.
If things get more complicated, I suggest you take any ways that our necessary for the child's sake.
Talk to him. See how it goes. After all, you can't mind read his thoughts.

reader, anonymous, writes (11 June 2007): tricky one... i would advise he sees a professional counsellor to help him sort his feelings and thoughts, if there is excessive drinking or any drugs (soft or hard) involved then i'd get rid of those, this will help clear the thinking, you have to do what's right for the children and it's his choice wether he can moderate his behavior enough to create a stable surrounding for the little ones, if he can't then you're better off without him, good luck
