Period cycle question!

A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

This is a period cycle question. They say the "normal" period cycle is about 28 days however what i am confused about is whether that is the whole cycle or the days inbetween cycles???? So would the 28 day cycle woman have a 7 day period and then have to wait another 21 days before her next period, or would she have a period and then it be 28 days until her next period?

The reason i ask is because i assumed i had a 33 day period but i wasn't actually counting the days i was on my period - i was just counting the days inbetween periods. So not sure if i'm adding up correctly. Because if you do indeed add the days you are on a period into the cycle then that would mean i have a 39 day cycle. Would that be correct ... 33 days of no period and 6 days of a period?????

Also i'm pregnant - would that have any implications on due date dating??? Would ask my midwife but not seeing her until next week and i'm curious now lol You'd think i was a clueless teenager lol

A reader, anonymous, writes (2 September 2010):

The only day of your period that matters for the cycle calculation is the first day. So if I get my period on February 1 and then again on March 1, that's a 28-day cycle (unless it's leap year, then it's a 29-day cycle). No matter how long the period itself is.

As far as calculating your due date, they go by the first day of your last period and do the calculation, which I'm sorry I don't remember - been a long time time since I was pregnant! But let's say that the last time you had a period was July and the first day of your period was July 29. Then the calculation for your due date starts at July 29, no matter how long your periods are or what kind of cycle you have.

Also, even though everyone pretty much says you're pregnant for 9 months, it's actually 40 weeks.

Auntie E agony auntIn a nutshell. You are a 33 day cycle woman, that's all. On average you get your period every 33 days. I cycled every 29-30 days myself. The 28 day cycle is just an average. Best luck with your childbirth.
