You can move out from your parents' any time you want, you know. It's probably time for you to start being a bit more independant anyway, if this is the sort of thing that's causing a problem in your life.
At 18, you don't officially need their blessing to get any dangly bit pierced, but you have a moral obligation to follow their rules while they support you. Solution: start supporting yourself and do as you like.
One final thought. Isn't piercing your lip somewhat extreme? After all, it's only a fashion, and as such, it'll be extremely unhip in a couple of years (think Celtic tattoos, circa 1999). And there you'll be, left looking daggy and out-of-date, with a ruddy great hole in your lip. Maybe wait out this fad... see if it lasts, and if you still think it's a good idea when you're, say, 21.

reader, anonymous, writes (13 June 2006): Ah conservative parents. [sigh] Well, how much are you willing to 'risk'? If you do it, and you get kicked out, then your parents are morons, cuz they rather kick you out on the street than to accept something you like and quite harmless.
Anyway, they don't seem to be logical people. So your choices are quite clear. What do you want to do?
A) get pierced, parents get mad, yell at you, possibly kick you out, then you will have to find a place to stay at
B) get pierced, not tell your parents until they find out, when they yell at you, let them finish, blink at them, smile, and go take a shower, ignoring them, cuz they can't do anything about it anyway
C) not get pierced, blah
D) other options?

your 18 you should just get it done. the worst that they can do is throw you out of your house and if that happens then you should take it out.
