Does anyone know if there are any paid jobs where you can help people with their problems online, or would it be voluntary ?. I have been thinking recently that i'd like to have a job where i can help people, and, of course, being on dear cupid made me think of it too. I have seen a website called connexions direct where people talk to people about their problems through a chat room, but i'm not sure if they get paid for it or not. Does anyone have any suggestions ?.

Some counselling organisations have phone based and chat based support services offered, but you have to be qualified to do that work as you would need to be in order to work as a counsellor in any way. Also, for reasons to complex and numerous to go into, helping people is best done in person. If you are interested in working in a helping profession, I would highly recommend studying in the field as it is fascinating study, and you learn a lot about yourself, and what is helpful in terms of working with people.

If you really want to help people (rather than just giving your advice) then your best place is start is to do a introductory course in counselling. Many local colleges offer such courses. Until you are actually 'qualified' to help people, I don't think you should expect to be making money from it.
