A male reader, Asexy United States +, writes (7 November 2007):

Asexy agony auntFirst of all, start doing something you enjoy -- something you're good at. It doesn't matter what -- play a sport, join a club, sing in a choir, take a dance class, study martial arts. Anything that makes you feel that you're really good at something. Bonus points if you can meet people there and talk casually.

Personally, I recommend a dance class -- I've noticed that there are never enough of us guys who can dance, and when you're at a wedding or at a club and you can dance (really dance) the girls are after you. But seriously, it can be anything.

Then, start talking. Start small -- the weather, the elevator music, anything. Start on strangers in line at the grocery store, waiting for the bus, in the elevator. Places where you're together for a few moments then part. You need practice, and you're probably not going to see these girls again so it won't matter if you're a doof. But the more you talk to them, the better at it you'll be.

Good luck.
