A female age 41-50, anonymous writes:

A younger man (9 years younger) and I are going out on our first “date”. We will most likely go to a park and dinner and maybe something else…

Any advice for picking an outfit to wear on a date with a younger man?

Any advice for picking an outfit to highlight an older woman?

Any advice in selecting something cute/sexy that he will like but not to overdo?

Please, if you can help me with a outfit.

k_c100 agony auntAge is irrelevant here - just dress in what makes YOU feel sexy, confident and comfortable. If you try too hard and wear something you would not normally wear, you will feel uncomfortable and your confidence will not shine through. Whereas if you dress in something you feel sexy in, and something that suits your figure - then you will look great and your confidence will come through to your date.

I cant really advise you what to wear seen as I dont know what shape you are nor do I understand what you mean by going to a park (as in for a walk in a park? A picnic? Theme Park??). Say if the date is going out for dinner, then a dress is always a winner. Dresses suit ALL women, you just have to find the right one to suit your shape. Ideally it will hug you around the waist to highlight your curves, and the hemline should sit just below the knee.

If you are doing something a bit more casual - then jeans and heels is a good idea. Slim fitting jeans or jeans with a slight bootcut look the best as the flatter your shape, and always go for a dark wash (indigo blue or black). Heels elongate the leg and sex up the jeans a little bit. Then pair it with a nice top/jumper/cardigan.

If you are literally walking outdoors in a park this is a bit harder - heels are probably not a good idea but then again if you go dressed for walking you will look a bit too casual when you go to a restaurant for dinner. Maybe jeans, nice top and a fitted jacket, with a nice scarf to finish the look off. If you have some flat boots then this would work too.

I hope this helps and good luck!

tennisstar88 agony auntI recommend a pair of skinny jeans if you already don't own a pair..Know what you're thinking, yikes skinny jeans I can't wear those. Wrong! Everyone can wear them, they flatter all shapes and sizes..make your rear look good too. If you're curvy, the Limited has a great curvy fit one that is so comfortable and they relax as the night goes on. Definitely a dark wash, it's slimming and appropriate to wear in the evening. Pair with cute flats or black riding boots with a low heel, a nice flowing top with a cardigan if it's chilly weather or make it a sexy off one shoulder sweater with possibly a wide belt to cinch your waist if it's a little baggy. As Dorothy stated don't worry about the age difference and trying to compensate for it in your wardrobe..look your age but chic and sophisticated.

A female reader, Dorothy Dix Australia +, writes (13 October 2010):

Hi there. Don't worry about trying to look younger. Just dress the way you normally would. Just be yourself. Carry yourself well and be proud. Confidence in a woman, is much more attractive to a man than all the sexy clothes in the whole world. Age difference doesn't mean a thing. It's more about what you both have in common and how you get along, that really counts. After all, he liked you enough to ask you out, so you're already perfect.

The best advice is to wear whatever you would normally wear on one of those activities.

Also wear what suits your figure and your colouring.

You are going to two different places. You have said a park then to dinner.

When you say go to a park - do you mean a picnic?

If that's it, well depending on the weather, perhaps a nice pair of jeans and a nice well fitting top that's both comfortable and flattering. Comfortable shoes suitable for being in the park - don't wear stilettos for instance. Wear sensible shoes, because you don't want to end up with blisters. It will spoil your day.

You are probably going to have to go home and change after the park if you are going to dinner, as you don't know what would be suitable for where you are going. He will know if you need to dress up at all or if it's just smart casual. So just ask him if you need to dress up for it, that way it shows him that you care enough to ask in the first place. You are also showing respect for him.

You might even find that you could wear the same outfit and just change your shoes, and put some different makeup on or simply freshen up a bit. If you have long hair, you might want to wear it up for dinner, just to dress it up a bit more than for the picnic. A ponytail for the picnic would be perfect. In the night for dinner, you could wear a nice hair clip to add dazzle.

Hope you have a wonderful time together. Just relax and be yourself and have fun! Best wishes and take care.
