Obsessing that my boyfriend may cheat

Question - (11 April 2011) 6 Answers - (Newest, 16 September 2011)
A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I find myself obsessing over whether my boyfriend is having sex with anyone else. We've been together 5 months and I have no specific evidence at all. In fact, he tells me what he is doing whenever I ask and he picks up the phone whenever I call (even 2 in the morning).

Still I find myself checking his FB to see if anyone is commenting too much and I want to check his phone.

He is a musician and gets lots of attention. This only started when I learned he is relocating for several months because of work. Am I just being a paranoid freak - or ladies - is this a gut feeling thing I shouldn't ignore??

UPDATE: He was cheating. it started just 3 weeks after he left our town. I found evidence on FB when he left his account open on my computer.

I broke up with him.

Go with your gut.

He finally changed it. I flat out told him if he was going to give the appearance of being single online than so was I !

(it was changed the next day).

tennisstar88 agony auntNot to take his side, but it is understandable that he wants to keep his private life, well private. When it comes to guys changing their FB relationship status, they often drag their feet about it..They don't want the attention. So Facebook shouldn't have to define your relationship. You SHOULD be confident in your relationship not to argue over that minor detail.

Again, that's not proof he's cheating. If you can't handle his musician lifestyle or you can't bring yourself to trust him, then you need to break it off with him. Now, if you continue on this path you will drive yourself batty and he'll eventually dump you.

I sent him a request to change his status on FB from nothing to "in a relationship" and link it to my page. He refused !!! Says he wants to keep

his private life private (he is a musician and accepts fans on his page). When I got mad - he accused me of acting like a 12 year old.

This comes just days after he said he loves me - so I didn't think the status change would be a big deal.

Thoughts?

tennisstar88 agony auntHas he ever given you a reason to not trust him? Or is this stemming from previous relationships of where you were wronged?

If it's the latter, then you know going thru relationships where you don't give the guy trust will get you absolutely nowhere. You HAVE to have trust in order for a relationship to function.

I can understand of where you feel insecure because he's a musician..you may think that there are groupies throwing themselves at him. This isn't always the case. Believe it or not, some of those musicians have self control when it comes to sex and rock 'n' roll.

Anyways, you said it yourself, you have absolutely no evidence that he is cheating. The only thing you have is your paranoia, which will drive him away if you don't stop.

See i have been with my boyfriend for two years now, and several times i have caught him out doing things he shouldn't. I got the same feeling and decided i will always go with my gut feeling, its normally right.

Although not all men are the same. Some ARE faithful no matter how much attention they get from other women. I think the best thing to do is to just come out with it. Tell him how your feeling and ask him about it too. If you know him well enough you will tell whether he is lying or telling the truth.
