A age 30-35, anonymous writes:

hey, sorry this isn't a relationship question but I really want to change my hairstyle and don't know how to go about it, i've always turned to this site with my problems and i've had great advice from it.

first of all my hair is about just past my shoulders, light brown, naturally curly - quite thick. I want to change my hair to Frankie Sandford's from the pop band The Saturdays. But i'm not sure if it will suit me or not. . I think i have a long neck and i supppose this short hairstyle might not work out for me. But i've tried groing my hair long and i just can't straighten it everyday, its tiring and damaging my hair. Curly is just out of the questions it wild. Not tight ringlets but still just a big mess. So i thought the short look would be well fashionable and more easier to cope with. . i know i haven't explained this very well but i would love to hear your suggestions?

thank you to everyone who replies, your great help!

Xxxx

In general I would recommend browsing some celebrity magazines to get some ideas of hairstyles. We post ideas and tips on our blog at http://emersonsalon.com

Your best bet is probably to just go to your hairstylist and ask for some ideas. He can use his experience to make some great suggestions

If you go into the hairdressers and explain to them what you would like to do with your hair, they will be able to advise you on whether it will suit you or not. If they think it won't, they will be able to suggest similar alternatives which you will still be happy with.

They have all this knowledge about face shapes, face lengths, etc, which can help them to know whether a particular style is a good idea or not. I often go into the hairdressers clueless, and they help me out a lot! If you can take a picture of the style you are looking at, that will help them too. Good luck! x

SirenaBlusera agony auntYou could try one of those websites where you superimpose a digital hairstyle onto your face. Some salons even have the software.

I've learned the hard way that you must try out a hairstyle before you get committed to it. Unlike an outfit, you have to wear it all the time.

I dyed my red hair black once, because I wanted to look more Spanish... it was a fiasco. I did NOT look like a beautiful Spanish dancer... I looked like an evil fairy tale witch. It took months to fade out of my hair (which is maroon now).

I see you're between the ages of 13-15, so you're lucky. I would LOVE to dye my hair a really funky color, like purple or magenta, but I am a teacher now and can't afford to be a rebel. :( Enjoy this age as a chance to experiment, life is short, do something crazy that you've always wanted to do, be daring. Dye it purple, get streaks in it, paint your fingernails black. You live once!

I was a music and drama freak in high school, so my answer is a bit biased... but enjoy your freedom as a student and try out the crazy stuff now while you can! It's just hair, it grows back. Just don't cut it too short because I did that once and regretted it.

I think it is pretty hard for us to suggest a hair style since we cannot see you or see your hair.

A short hair style would look good on someone with a long neck.

The best thing I can suggest is to find a hair stylist that knows how to cut curly hair like yours, there is a proper way to cut that kind of hair to get it to look it's best.

The style you are thinking of is very straight, so I think with humidity it would be difficult to keep your hair style staying stick straight.

There are many cute short hair styles that look great with curly or wavy hair....discuss it first with your hair stylist and they can make the best suggestions for you.

Sometimes changing the color of your hair to a deeper a lighter shade or adding high lights and low lights brings about the biggest change of all.

Hope that helps you out some.

I love hair questions and you explained it in a way i actually understand!

Your hair sounds lovely but yes short is in, i love her hair its gergous always in tip top condition though but as you say short hair is easy to maintain. Look at your face shape, many people have the heart shape face which suits the shorter crop chop type look however if its rounded or sharply shaped then the longer layers suits better and fits well around the shape. Hair can make a compelete difference to your appearance, shorter hair can also bring out your best features.

Its up to you what to do but i admit short is in at the moment and if you get it cut a lot shorter the curls will give and it will fall into that flop style look that iis popular everywhere right now boys and girls!

Straightening does damage but there are a lot of heat protection rescues etc out there for a cheaper price.

However in thie summer your mess of a hair as you call it! Is very in, the beach type look everyone trys to create that and with summer quickly approaching bear that in mind!

Whatever style you choose im sure will settle to suit your face and in time you can get the style you personally want. If you do go for frankies look take in a picture to your hairdresser to create the look how you actually want it, i find this really helps!

Dont worry about the kneck though, sort hair can sometimes bring out the kneck to its best so dont hide it away, bring it out and show it off embrace what you have!

Go enjoy it! Best of luck with your new style
