reader, anonymous, writes (24 May 2012): ohh im 17!! and my dad makes a big deal and stops me seeing the boys if im getting close to them i hate it!, i would agree and say be friends and take it slow so your parents can like him otherwise an argument may happen if you just go out with him as your parent will most likely say your not respecting them act. as they do.

 Ouch it's so hard to be your age but your parents are doing what they think is best. I was not allowed to date till I was 16 and I did not allow my stepdaughter to date till she was 16 either...
maybe you and this boy can be friends and he can come and visit at your home when your parents are there and they can get to know him and see what happens from there.
