Hi

Not sure how this site works, but will give it a go anyway!

I am 20 years old. I am so so shy - my face goes red everytime I speak even in front of my family!

I am a quiet person- has anyone got any advice of how to overcome this? I have tried saying 'ooh I am blushing' but it doesnt help at all.

Please I really want to be confident!

Thank you

A reader, anonymous, writes (6 March 2014):

The more you think about it, the more you WILL go red. I know its easy to say don't think about it, but it does help. Try to focus on the persons hair, dress, nose and don't allow yourself to think...'I'm talking and I'm gonna go red now' instantly bring yourself back to the persons nose or whatever.

You need to find a focal point when speaking whether it is to a large group or one person, even if it is a picture at the back of a room when you're public speaking. It sounds really silly but try it.

Tell yourself you are an inteligent person worthy of people's time and attention. Your are just as good as anybody else, so what oters think of you shouldn't matter.

YouWish agony auntDon't say anything! I've known people who are just like you where their face got red when they spoke and more red when they spoke in public or to strangers. Just pretend it's not happening, and if someone points it out, just say that the blood sometimes rushes to your face when you speak.

You can be confident! There have been world leaders who did the same thing you do when they speak, and it doesn't hold them or any other professional or you back.
