My boyfriend forgot my name at an important event

Question - (20 April 2010) 3 Answers - (Newest, 21 April 2010)
A female United States age 51-59, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend and I have been dating for almost two years. His best friend from childhood was having a birthday party. I haven't met his best friend prior to the party. My boyfriend told me it was a big deal to meet his best friend. It was probably more important than meeting his parents.

At the party, as my boyfriend was introducing me to his best friend's father in law, he forgot my name and I ended up having to say my name. My boyfriend tried to play it off and tried to turn it into a joke like saying "What's your name?" Needless to say, I was pissed.

What should I do? Is this a deal breaker? If it's not that big of a deal, how do I get past this?

TasteofIndia agony auntYou get the opportunity to show how cool you are. If you let this go, and accept that it was a silly mistake, you'll show what a great girlfriend you are. Don't fret about little things not worth fretting about. Pick your battles, sweetness!!

At the end of the day its probably the over excitement of him introducing you to a part of his life that you've not seen, he was probably nervous and excited. I wouldnt take offence to something as small as that unless my girlfriend forgot my name on the wedding day

He was nervous, that's all. He obviously knows your name. We all get tongue-tied now and then. Give the man a break. Trust me, if you make a big deal out of stuff like this, you will not have a future with him.
