A female reader, anonymous, writes (17 May 2011):

I wrote to someone on a dating site for 9 months and then he didn't want to meet up!

If its a dating site its for dating, however reserved he says he is, so ask him whether he went on there to meet someone or just wants to be in contact by email. From what I can gather there are quite a lot who only want to email.

janniepeg agony aunt8 months is a long time to commit to just writing without expecting anything. I would say he will like you more than friends if you show him first that you want him as more than friends. You are both playing the waiting game with nothing to lose. Ask for pictures then see if you like his voice on the phone. That will give you more clues as to whether you want more from this guy. Platonically I think you have a lot here.
