So, I'm pregnant for the very first time and I was wondering if any of you lovely aunts would feel like sharing your labour and birth stories? I would very much like to know as much as I can about other peoples experiences so I have a good idea on all the possibilities :) and uncles feel free to post too! It would be great to hear a males perspective on the birth of their child or children, I know my fiance is absolutely bricking it and thinks he'll be passed out on the floor! Lol look forward to hearing all your tales :)

hey, congratulations on your pregnancy! I will give you an honest account of my labour experience of my only child, my gorgeous little boy of only 5 months.

Well, I was 8 months pregnant when i went into labour. I got up one morning went to the toilet where I noticed my waters leaking a little. I phoned the midwife who said that she doubted I was in labour because I was early and thought the waters might just be leaking slightly. She told me to come to the maternity unit at the hospital so she could look me over. I live on my own (me and babys dad seperated) so I drove myself to the hospital. I remember getting there, getting out of my car and my waters just broke completely in the car park! I had to waddle to the maternity unit where they told me I was definitely in labour! So I phoned my family and babys dad who came up to support me. I was very nervous but so excited at the same time. I wasnt feeling any pain at this point, just waiting on the bed reading magazines! Then the contractions started, mild at first then turning into long period pain type feeling. I wont lie to you, it was painful! I had gas and air which sort of took the edge off the pain but it wasnt enough. So when I was 5cm dilated I requested an epidural. I had this and after a while I couldnt feel anything from the waist down. I would definitely reccommend one if you dont have a high pain threshold.

After a while the midwife told me to start pushing which I did, with my sister by my side. 30 mins of pushing and my little boy came into the world weighing 5.13Ib. Because I had had an epidural I did not feel when I needed to push and stop, so I tore down below which often happens when women have epidurals. When they put my son into my arms it was the most amazing moment. People always tell horror stories about the birth but I actually think it was the best part of pregnancy for me! I feel slighlty jealous when I see heavily pregnant women cos I think how exciting for them to go through it. Yes it was painful but the excitement, love and amazement far outweighs the pain. Good luck xx

i planned on a home birth but after 4 days of contractions and 4 days on my waters leaking with only 4cm of progress ... i couldn't take it anymore and got my midwife to take me to the hospital. I had always wanted a home birth because i hate hospitals and doctors and conforming was my idea of a hellish nightmare but to be honest i was just relieved to get the drugs lol I'd always said i'd go as far as i could and if i couldn't cope then i'd seek help, am so glad i did. I was given gas and air (which by the way put me mentally on a time delay, everything was repeating and fast forwarding and rewinding lol). I had an epidural that took an hour to get in and i was sooooo cold, kept having to ask for another blanket which arrive about 2 hours after i first asked. The staff were great but i felt embarrassed that multipul people were coming in and out, especially with my feet in those thingys - so not the first view you want people to see when first meeting you lol They say you forget the pain when the baby comes, i think its merely a distracting because 2 weeks after his birth and i certainly still remember it - i also still remember the feeling like i've been run over by a truck feeling and the baby needing me meant it took ages for me to heal. The first time you pee after the birth i recommend doing so in the bath, oooooooooh ouch otherwise and the amount of blood that is heavy than a period, i used up a year's supply of pads after the birth. I still feel hellish now but i'm a lot better and glad to have my son but it has been a mini nightmare, a lovely mini nightmare - can only get better from here :) I'd say the best piece of advice is only do what you are comfortable with and make sure they explain everything to you first because you do not have to agree - also be open to help if you need it but trying to cope gives a great sense of control, less birth ran away from you and more you lead the direction it was going :) Trying not to be a prude helps but by the time you have flashed several people, you lose the will to care. Also breast feeding i loved but added to sleepliness as baby want want want and those retracting contracting, ouch!! But woot woot, baby to pre-baby size already :)

C. Grant agony auntI was there for the birth of each of our three children. It was remarkably difficult to be there and be useless as my wife was going through an intensely painful time. For the first two we were in a hospital that didn't seem all that keen on pain meds. For one we had a private room with a shower, the thinking being that the hot water would soothe things. Not. They offered nitrous. Didn't help. We asked for an epidural during the first two, they said the anestheologist wasn't available or that it was too late. Bottom line was that the first two deliveries were difficult and painful. The babies were ca. 8 lbs give or take. The first one there was tearing which led to an episiotomy. I had a look as things were happening and thought we'd never have sex again.

Different hospital for the third, anesthesologist on call, epidural on demand. Baby was 9 lbs. 11 oz, and no trouble at all. No shrieking, no screaming, no tearing, no episiotomy. Huge baby, piece of cake delivery.

For goodness sake find out if the hosptial you're considering has a bias against pain meds. Having watched the third, I'm mad as hell that the first two were so unnecessarily painful.

CuteBabe agony auntHey there:)

Well believe me you don't want to hear my story not because it was bad or anything, but because as I've heard it's the weirdest:s

My child birth was a complete natural one; I took nothing I didn't get the epidural nor did I take anything to aid me or reduce the pain, but still it was a flash I felt absolutely nothing.. I simply passed out when i got my first cramp, and woke up with a cute baby girl sleeping right next to me.

Easy hugh:)

I know my story isn't of any help, but there is this site that could help:

Wish the best luck through out your pregnancy and hope your labor is like mine a piece of cake :)
