Is there a good approach for my defensive girlfriend?

A male United States age , anonymous writes:

My girlfriend sometimes turns my words around and completely misses the message I am trying to convey to her, and quite often gets defensive and angry. She'll cool down later and we are able to have a rational discussion about the issue. I aways approach her gently, opening the discussion with, "I feel...", and there is never any finger-pointing on my part. I am walking on eggs every time I have to talk to her about a relationship issue. Is there a really good approach?

Have you ever thought it might be the way you try to converse with her?

Men and women speak different languages and hear things differently.

You might want to read some of the "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus" books. You'd be AMAZED how different the sexes are in how they communicate. I know I learned a lot and have had much better outcomes in my communications with men since reading some of those books. It's worth a try.
