A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (13 January 2010):

I've been an army wife and I've seen how it is for young guys in the army.

It's hard and he'll be away a LOT.

Having a girlfriend is almost impossible for them. They don't have the time and he will be changing as the army breaks him down and builds him up again. Basic training is HARD.

I would just enjoy the time you have together and then agree to stay friends so you can meet up when he comes back.

Good Luck!! xx
