I hadn't had sex for 4 years. I've met someone, we did it, but it hurt so much and I'm still bleeding, not scary bleeding but still. Why is that? I'm not a virgin and I was pretty wild up until 4 years ago. He was long but not too wide. It was painful but bearable. Is this normal after not having intercourse for a while?

I work in the medical field. No it is not normal to bleed after intercourse. (Unless you are very close to your menstrual cycle).

You mentioned length, so the only thing I could think of is he bumped/bruised your cervix, which can cause some light spotting.

The vaginal tissues can be very thin and easily irritated, but that usually happens when a woman gets older.

If it keeps happening, make an appointment for an exam.

Meanwhile, try a good silicone based lube to reduce friction on the tissues.

Best Wishes.

Tisha-1 agony auntI guess it could be a normal reaction after a long period of no sexual intercourse but there's always a chance that you have something else going on. I think it's safest to check with your gynecologist, don't you think? Maybe find out if your body has changed somehow. Good luck with the new guy!
