 I do hope that there was no one offended by my post. I understand the question was about baby oil being used for a specific purpose. However there was mention of saliva. I wanted to give information concerning the risk of using it as a lubricant.
There was already mention of the usage of saliva as lubrication and also mentiont that it shouldn't be used for penetration. I do hope that the information I gave is not taken out of context and allows one to understand what saliva isn't actually the best method of lubrication but is indeed used as such.

Using saliva as a personal lubricant is the method techinally referred to as *in a pinch* when you don't have don't have anything else available.
While it can be used as a lubricant not all Doctors agree that the usage of saliva is the best method. Bacteria and viral particals can be carried from the saliva and cause serious infection in the vaginal area or the male genatalia. Especially if one has infections of the mouth or throat such as inflamed gums,sore throat,tonsilitis, or one of the many viral problems such as(strep, oral herpes, etc.)
It is not considered the most profecient of lubricants although it is the oldest known form since the beginning of man. Improper lubrication can cause tears to the vaginal area . Vaginal dryness can be a problem for some women. Saliva tends to break down quickly and has a drying process too rapid to allow proper lubrication.
KY Jelly is a good lubricant and widely suggested by doctors.

 I've never had a problem with baby oil...just try and avoid the one which contains Aloe Vera. Having said that, some people may have more sensitive skin than other's.
Trial an' error I guess.
Saliva's the most natural, sounds gross, but it does work well - I agree.
