Is a tan a turn on? Guys and girls, your thoughts on whether tan lines are a turn off?

A female Australia age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I personally think it's a bit shallow for one to complain about tan lines on their partner, but that being said, I'm one who loves to soak up the sun in summer and obviously when I'm by the pool or at the beach with my friends, I'm not going to be naked, and I will have tan lines.

I'm pretty self conscious when I know I shouldn't be, I have a great body, but having a tan makes me feel more confident, but when it comes to tan lines and my boyfriend seeing my body, I become a little self conscious to whether it's a turn off, but then I know he thinks my body is the sexiest thing on the planet regardless of my skin tone.

It's pretty cliche for guys and girls to dig a tan on the opposite sex, but I've had one best friend, a male, who had fallen for me tell me that tan lines are a turn off? Sooo. I just wanted to know peoples opinion on this one, thought it might be interesting.

Nime - I'm very aware of the sun and the dangers, I do enjoy spending time in summer outdoors though, and I know I am still doing damage to my skin, but I always wear sunscreen, reapply often, hat and sunnies also usually.

I'm not a fan of the whole 'tan till you look resemble an oompa loompa look', I have an olive skin tone though, and any short amount of time in the sun I tan easily, and have a really nice skin tone. And I live in the tropics in Australia, so my summers are spent by the pool and beach, so no matter what, no matter how much sunscreen, I will always get a tan, and will therefore have tan lines. I think they do look a little silly, but I know my partner loves my body no matter what, so that doesn't matter.

I just wanted to hear other peoples opinion on them out of interest!

Nime agony auntAck, I know you don't want to hear a lecture, but for your skin's sake start avoiding tans and tan lines altogether! I am only 25 but would not be caught dead with a tan or in the sun without protection. It's just too damaging to your skin. I am in absolute disbelief when I meet up with girls who I graduated high school or college with and I see all the age lines around their eyes. I just can't look away. A few months ago I sat next to a fashionable, bubbly, blonde with a nice tan. As we were chatting I estimated her age to be in the early to mid thirties by the lines around her eyes and the roughness of her skin; I thought she looked good for her age. Then it came out that she was a junior in college and only 21! It's a real struggle not to ask these people what the hell they are doing to themselves. You may look fine now with a tan but in a couple of years you will look BUSTED. Do you want that?

Oh, and in case you didn't know, most clothes, especially lighter colored ones, only afford about 10-15% protection against UV rays, so you should use sunblock all over your body when you go out!

tan lines do look pretty silly, but its not really a major turn off I don't think. I'm not a fan of tanning in general, I'm too afraid of getting skin cancer.

xTheAlmightyDuckx agony auntMy personal opinion on tan lines? Strangely enough i think they look kind of silly and as soo many people are always so desperate to get a tan and some people especially round my area areee sooooo tanned they do look like oranges.

I also think being tanned is overated but if someone likes looking tanned than thats fine with them i'm not bothered.

I guess its either because i'm a freak of nature but strangely enough i think people who look rather pale look nice but it could just be because i'm real pale but hey each to there own.

However i do think if you like getting tanned then don't change for others its your body and if you dig getting tanned then go crazy and don't feel pressured to change just because other people don't like it.

babygirllovej agony auntI have tan lines and my boyfriend loves it. However I don't go out of my way to get tan lines. If someone really cares for you it wouldn't matter if you had tan lines or not.

Remember though to keep adding lotion to your skin. Mine is horrible for drying out.

Good Luck!
