A female reader, anonymous, writes (2 November 2007):

My first real serious boyfriend was 4 years older than me, I was 19 and he was 23 when we met. 95% of the time it was never an issue but the odd time it did become an issue was when I wanted to go out or go places or do things and he would say he had done that already when HE was young!!! After a while he lost interest in going out to clubs and I was still young and wanted to go with my friends - that caused a few arguments then!!! But on the whole it was fine.

I also dated a guy 4 1/2 years younger than me too and the age gap was never an issue either. Its how you get on together as a couple and respect each other are the main factor not the age gap.

Just enjoy yourself and don't worry about the age :)

Age has never been an issue with me. My first husband was 4 years older than me, then the second partner was 6 years older and now my husband is two years younger. Stop worrying and enjoy each other. The issue become bad if one of the partnership is under 16, so i hope you are not.

take care

A reader, anonymous, writes (2 November 2007):

It is entirely down to personal preferance. If you are fine with it and you are both adults then there is no problem at all. I believe age is only a problem when there are minors in the equation.

A reader, anonymous, writes (2 November 2007):

Depends on your actual ages. If you are 18-19 and she 13-14, then it is definitely wrong. But if you are 23 and she is 18, no big deal.

Like other people have said, so long as neither of you are minors then there's no problem with it at all. Age aint nothing but a number.

dapone 1 agony auntHello.

Age is not a problem as long as the person is of legal age in your city (US),i dont know your legal status on this, but i think you should check it out then you wont have a problem, in the UK there are a lot of people with an age gap and they seem to be doing very well for them selfs.

hope this helps
