A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Me and my boyfriend have been trying to have a baby for over a year. I hadnt had my period in over 8 months. I went to the Dr's and apparently I have HPV. No cancer. Everything is good. They did the vaginal ultrasound and everything was good. They put me on promethium 200 mg to make me get me period. They did that for about 3 months. Then she put me on fertitly drugs clomid. It was successful and I got pregnant. My progestrone levels wouldnt go up and they put me on progestrone suppositorys. Did my ultrasound at 5 1/2 weeks everything was good there was a heartbeat. Went and did another one at 7 weeks and there was no heartbeat. it killed me. oh and the progestrone never helped. My levels never went up. at 7 weeks my levels were in the 2000's. I had to do a d and c. i want a baby but im scared to try again. i cant lose another one it will kill me. What are the chances of going on clomid again and having a good pregnancy?

A female reader, DrPsych United Kingdom +, writes (3 May 2009):

DrPsych agony auntThere are loads of issues here for you. I have had two miscarriages myself and I have lots of medical conditions which have messed up my fertility. I also have a 1 year old son and doctors didn't believe pregnancy was possible for me so it can happen. HPV is a very common virus that is highly prevalent in the population. As you probably know certain strains of HPV increase the risk of cervical cell changes and cancer so you need to have regular smears to monitor how things are going. It is important you have regular periods so if they don't happen make sure you go back to the doctor as your uterus needs a spring-clean from time to time. If you don't get periods for a long while you end up with endometrial hyperplasia (meaning build up of cells in the lining of the womb). Before you start clomid, I suggest you have a full blood and ultrasound work-up looking for anything that may explain your current hormonal problems like POLYCYSTIC OVARIES (this is one of the problems I have). If that is the problem, you would need to take Metformin (a diabetic drug) to get rid of insulin resistance which causes infertility. It is an effective treatment for infertility if polycystic ovaries is your problem. I would also say you need testing for pituitary and thyroid gland problems so get yourself back to the doctors. Good luck and take heart...it can happen for you (positive thinking!) just takes time and patience.

i have hpv as well, i have even gotten pre cancerous cells removed and i had a baby. i dont think hpv can cause the infrrtility,as for the drug. talk to your dr and see if there are other ones and see if the result of taking them will have less of an effect of still born.
