 If he's hanging out with the likes that do drugs, then persistantly not coming to school - it's a possibility.
You need to talk to your friend. Let him know you'll always be there, but he's changed recently - for the worst. Try not to come across as intrusive. And if you find that you can't help right now - let him make his own mistakes.
