lovehate agony auntSweetie i know how you feel. Nowadays people have sex younger and too be honest contraception is the most important thing. Well done not fo rushing into things and thinking it through! If you really want to have sex ask friends if they have done it on how to tell your parents, if not tell someone you trust who is an adult who you maybe feel comfortable telling.

I hope this helps X

I am not sure of the age of consent in Canada but in the UK it is 16. It basically means that it is illegal to have sex below this age and it can be considered statutary rape.

Then again it is good to see that you are taking some responsibility to prevent pregnancy.

As for your parents reaction, well they all react differantly but I would have thought there would be concern that you are sexually active at such a young age as well as pride that you are taking such responsibility.

Maybe suggest to your mum about you both going to see the doctor about it.

If you do really want to have sex then the best way is to just come out with it. I promise they'll be proud that you're being so mature and not careless enough to rush into sex without thinking about contraception. They'll appreciate your honesty too.

Good luck x x x x

A female reader, anonymous, writes (28 July 2007):

Is there some sort of other reason why you need to use birth control pills other than to protect yourself against pregnancy? Sometimes birth control pills can be used other than to stop you getting pregnant. If the answer's no (to the first sentence question) then i don't see why you need it.

Michelley-ox agony auntwhy do you feel the need to go on birth control pills in the first place you shouldnt be having sex at your age as am sure your body will not be ready. if you are really desparate to go on the birth control pill then just explain the situation with your parents and the reason. however i dont think their is any point on going on the pill this early.
