writes:I'm 15 and in my last year of high school, I really like my English teacher but I'm not very good at english and we're not really especially close. I am taking English next year at college and I might get him for it, I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to get closer to him, not for sexual reasons I just really want to be close to him. I would just like advice on what teachers like about students and how to impress him and stuff. Thankyou!

reader, anonymous, writes (15 October 2007): Hello, well i am consantly trying to get closer to one of my teachers in a non sexual way i just know he is a great guy and i wanna get to noe him better my suggestions do something that will blow him away english teachers are usually attracted to fabulous stories or poems. Even maybe ask him to recommend some books that would be good for you to read.if he asks why and if its something that u wouldnt nomally do just say either i have got into reading and i think you may be able to reccomend some good books. or i read a lot and have run out of books and was wondering if you had any recommendations but make sure if u say u ran out of books to just remember a few incase wot kind he asks u just try to think of books he may like.

reader, anonymous, writes (13 April 2007): I would ask yourself why you feel the need to get close to your teacher and what that means.You have to be honest with yourself and accept you may have a bit of a crush which would be innapropiate and as he is your teacher may well make him stay well away if handled badly.You are young, just enjoy life and dont let this become a problem.

I wouldn't like to sound like I'm lecturing you, but I would advise not to try to get too close to a teacher in that way. If you don't mean any harm, other ill-intentioned people might, and your teacher could get into trouble. I understand where you are coming from, as some teachers can have such a tremendous influence on us... But I think you should try and focus more on the subject he is teaching rather than on him as a person. You said you were going to study English next year, so it is time for you to prepare this coming year.
We all had our favourite teachers, and be sure that teachers do remember the students who do share their enthusiasm for the subject. Do your best in English for your own good, not for him. Besides, if you try to get closer to him and he sees these efforts, he might get uncomfortable in your presence, which is not what you want.
What do you actually mean by "to be close to him"? Do yo uwant him to be a friend? Remember that teachers cannot get too close to their students for many obvious reasons, one of them being that it is a very demanding job and teachers take this job back home and everywhere they go. They worry about their students' welfare constantly... So, imagine if a teacher would be friend with every single one of his students; the poor man would never sleep!
He is your teacher, and he is there in the classroom for a reason, and so are you.
