Hi, I keep on having this nagging feeling that won't go away...namely I am so lonely that it's amking me depressed. I am student teaching three times a week (working on my master's degree) and taking three classes in addition to it and I feel overhwehlemed.

I wish there was someone there to make me feel I wasn't alone in doing all of these things...having to work in schools and doing assessments and all that...it makes me feel (for lack of a better word) pathetic that I'm the only person in my class who is single (i think) and I wish I had someone to talk to that really was interested in me and what I ahd to say.

At this point, I feel depressed...I feel like I don't wnat to do any homework, I'm gaining weight because I'm eating so much ebacsue I'm bored a lot of the time after I get home from school because I just wnat to be comforted after havign a tough day teaching students. I don't ahve time for what I used to love to do: painting, drawing, making art and I just feel so dull and like I ahve nothing to offer...can someone help please?

You are in a vicous circle. You are depressed because it is all work and no play and you aren't meeting people who are interested in what you have to say because you are depressed and uninteresting to them. People are not drawn to depressed people.

First thing is you need to deal with this depression which could be partly chemical....make an appointment with your doctor and tell him your symptoms and he may prescribe some medication to help you. Depression is not something you can will out of you. However, getting enough sleep, excercise is very important and eating the right things will help immensely.....as well as finding a close friend that you can confide in, not complain to.

You are the one not making time for the things you used to enjoy like your art. Put down the fork, get off the couch and stop watching TV in your jammies and instead get out the art you like to work on and do it.....

Also, start focusing on the things you do have going for you, for what is good about the world, and what is good in other people. Show some gratitude for good health, a good job the priveledge of being able to be smart enough to have a masters degree and for the future that it will afford you. Gratitude and being interested in others instead of wallowing in self pity will change your mood. But if you are really depressed, you need to seek some medical help.....if you aren't just whining and have felt this way for more than 2 weeks, then get some help....you need it and there is nothing to feel bad about there. Depression affects about 20% of the population.....
