Maybe you could buy him an 'experience' instead. I mean like you can buy gift vouchers online to take him hot air ballooning or on a flight in a little Cessna over the countryside, try tandem sky-diving or go for a ride on a Harley three-person trike and take some lunch or something. There are kind of unusual thigns to give and thigns you can both do together. These things are a bit expensive though but if you're interested you can check out www.intotheblue.co.uk

 okay normally id say get something that he enjoys [for example if hes in to music get him some gig tickets] but maybe this needs something different. if you really want to "put the boat out" why not try something different and get him something he would never expect...i dont no how much money you want to spend..but why not take him to london for the day [this works i ahve a friend who has done this =D] or just something truly amazing that he would never of expected...
