A male Australia age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Hi, there's this girl that I've known for about a year now. I've had feelings for her but she didn't know so we were just friends. Recently, I asked her out on a date and she said 'yes' and I thought everything was gonna be perfect. But I realised on the date that we're not right for each other. I feel horrible because I initiated things but now I wanna back out. How do I tell her this?

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (29 July 2009):

You just do it. It's far better to do it while she doesn't have much feeling for you.

Tell her that you think she's really beautiful and you really love her to bits but you've realised that you feel nothing for her romantically.

She may be a bit upset but she may well say "Oh thank god me neither."

Good Luck!! xx
