Hello,

I got a problem with my foreskin, since young i have had problems with it being to tight, when its un-erect it's easy to pull back ( and this is when i clean it)

however when erect it can only go back a certain amount,

for obvious reasons this used to bother me alot, and a few times it got in the way with me and my girlfriend, however now we have sex as usual and there seems to be not much of a difference between being 'open' and 'closed.

Still though a few times it has gone back when hard and i havn't realised till after and it is a real hasstle to get it back to normal, it seems to get entangled and not easily put back to normal.

All i really want is someone to answer.

- Will it ever pose a real problem medically.

- Is there any easy way to solve this so i can have a normal flexable penis skin.

- I will NOT do circumcision enless it's going to cause me serious health problems.

Thanks

. Hm, well, seems like everything's been said.

I had it, I got circumcised, I feel better. Simple as that.

Cowboy agony auntLol! Arlo, you beat me to it!

So there you go then, both my friend and Arlo were relieved to be circumcised.

I guess I don't count so much because my circumcision was purely cosmetic, but honestly, it's SO much better!

This is called phimosis.

Here's a link to the wikipedia entry about it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phimosis

I have a friend who had this, and eventually he got himself circumcised. He swears it is the best thing he's ever done, and as someone who was circumcised as an adult (though for non medical reasons) I have to agree with him.

I guess it's fine as long as it's not getting in the way too much.

There are complications that can happen, but I think they're pretty rare.

The particularly worrying one is called paraphimosis, which can be a medical emergency. This is what happened to my friend, and he had to have emergency surgery. They performed a 'dorsal slit' which cured the tightness but left his foreskin looking weird, which is why he eventually got circumcised.

Oddly enough, he told me that when he first went to the doctor about his tight foreskin, he was told to stretch the skin regularly with his fingers to loosen it. Unfortunately, this actually made his condition worse. Seems that sometimes, stretching can make minute tears in the skin, which then heal as small scars that actually make the skin tighter.

I don't know what to recommend to you.

I'm circumcised and I think it's fantastic, and would recommend it to any man.

You say that you don't want to be circumcised unless it's absolutely necessary, so I guess you should see your doctor and find out what your other options are.

The only thing that I wouldn't recommend is a dorsal slit. This made my friend so unhappy you wouldn't believe.

I never saw it, but he told me that his foreskin looked really odd afterwards and I'm sorry to say that he was too ashamed of the way it looked to have sex.

I'm sure it didn't look as bad as he worried that it did, but I do know that he went without sex for a long time, and he paid a lot of money to have it surgically corrected, ie circumcised.

If you like, you are more than welcome to ask me about circumcision, as I was done as an adult so I remember it well. I may be able to allay some of your fears or concerns.

A male reader, Arlo United Kingdom +, writes (28 October 2008):

Arlo agony auntSounds like you DO have a genuine medical complaint here called phimosis which is an abnormal tightening of the foreskin which prevents it from being pulled down over the glans.

Phimosis, if left untreated, CAN cause inflammation problems which then leads on to infection - is it worth it?

I suffered from this myself and had to have a circumcision some 16 years ago now. I endured years of agony and frustration and the relief I got after the operation was immense - ok I walked around like John Wayne getting off a horse and wore jogging bottoms for two weeks, but it was worth it.

Go and see your GP and get it checked out. Don't let it affect your life!
