A female reader, Doctor Elizabeth Canada +, writes (26 March 2007):

Doctor Elizabeth agony auntIt's very supportive of you to ask advice to help your friend. I'm sure he/she needs love and support. We all do.

I think you should tell your friend that you are there any time to talk or whatever. Offer your shoulder to cry on. Tell your friend to be open and share his/her feelings.

Also, if your friend has a very serious mood disorder--like bi-polar mood disorder--he/she might consider seeing a specialist. There are many good, effective medications to treat the problem.

Best to you!

livi agony aunthey there,

perhapse they have other problems that they are keeping all bottled up.

take them to a place you know they love, just the two of you so if your friend needs to tell you something they wont feel self concious of everybody hearing .

or perhapse they need space, everyone crushing them could stress them out.

just be there for your friend, comforting and supportive.

good luck with it all : D
