 my bestie and i had that same problem. the best adivice that i can give in this situation is stay friends. if he sarts talking about how much he likes you just keep saying " our friendship means so much to me. i would never want want anything to jepordize it." and leave it at that.
make sure to continue being yourself.. after a while he will get the picture and you guys will go back to normal... at least my bud and i did. good luck hun! :D
