Ok.. This is kind of a touchy question, and I'm not even sure if I should be asking this or not.

I'm LDS (a mormon) and there's a lot of publicity and rumors flying around the media and everywhere else about my religion, especially now with Mitt Romney running for President. This undeserved negative publicity is really starting to bug me.

SO, hopefully, on here some of you will read this and ask me questions about what we believe in and what we dont.

This is my attempt to dispel some of these rumors and separate fact from fiction. I'll gladly answer all of your questions you have to the best of my abilities.

Thanks.

I don't want to minimize your concern but if I were you I would just take it with a grain of salt and laugh about it, ignore it and do not take it seriously. Just don't let it get under your skin.

I'm going to tell you why. Do you have rights? YES. Do you have freedom?? YES. Do you have liberty?? YES.

Ignorance is ubiquitious and always will be. People of ALL religions and races have been the undeserved targets of negativity. I'm half jewish for instance. Do you know how many times I have heard that Jews are cheap and we suck?? Like a million. I don't care. When my dad was growing up he told me that some public places put up signs saying "No dogs or Jews allowed." I never saw that as a reflection on me. But as a reflection on the ruthless ignorance of whoever did that.

And furthermore, there is a GOOD reason why Jews are the way they are. They have struggled alot and perhaps they know what its like to be dirt poor. It doesn't matter if you understand it just as long as I DO. Just like there is a GOOD reason that mormons are who they are and practice what they practice. It doesn't make it right or wrong. It's just different. No one has to understand who you are except for YOU.

I mean do you know what blacks have been through in this country?? Do you know what poor people have been through in this country?? Italians?? Chinese??

You are ALWAYS going to encounter people who don't understand, or think its "wrong."

And good for you that you are open to explaining yourself if you have to. And you are being intelligent about your reaction toward this. But you MUST rise above the ignorance. Do not let it get under your skin. Just keep forging ahead and DO NOT let other people's criticisms upset you. Blacks had no rights, no freedoms, no liberty's and had to endure criticism on top of it all. THAT is why they fought like they did. You have every right, liberty and freedom in the world. So don't let criticism get the best of you.

I've heard a lot of people in the media saying (but I don't believe them) that most people don't think LDS aren't Christian. So I guess I'll ask about the two things I consider central to Christianity.

1. Do LDS believe that Jesus was the son of God?

2. Do LDS believe that Jesus died and rose again for our sins?

There are a few more questions I could come up with but they wouldn't be as important.

Frank B Kermit agony auntHere is what I suggest...

Write out a Q&A booklet, and once that is completed, hold a little seminar inviting people to attend. The point is NOT to recruit, the point is to inform.

In fact, if you make it about 100 Q&A, you can even self publish it as a book on www.lulu.com.

Here are some questions:

What is in one line at the core of your religion?

How is it similar to other religions

How is is very different from other religions

What are the positive aspects

What are the negative aspects

What is the worst part of it

What is the best part of it

What are the BIGGEST misconceptions

Why do misconceptions exist

What can be done to help prevent this

What can LDS morons do to help

What can non LDS morons do to help

What is LDS anyways

What scares people about mormons

How does marriage work in Mormons

What is the difference between a cult and mormons

what other religion is MOST like mormon

If a person wanted to date a mormon, what would they have to know?

What violence is associated with being a mormon

Who are famous mormons that people know

These should start you off.
