A female reader, anonymous, writes (8 April 2008):

Just keep being nice to him when you run into him. Be warm and friendly. That's all you can do. If what you were thinking of doing is calling him and telling him that you would like to be friends, I wouldn't do that. For now just back off but keep being very sweet to him when he is around.

It will take time, but now that you know how he feels, you'll need to adjust for the reality. It will take time. Letting him know you still enjoy his company as a friend and that you accept his position should let him know that you both can continue the friendship.

Just continue to be yourself, know who you are, what your needs are and how to ask for them and eventually, you will find someone who feels the same way you do.

Take care!
