How long does it usually take to fall pregnant?

A female United Kingdom age 36-40, anonymous writes:

me and my boyfriend have been together for a few years. we always spoke about how we both want a baby at some point in our lifes, now we are a bit older we are ready now. thing is we have had alot of sex in the past year without condoms or conterception but yet i still havent fallen pregnant. i just wanted to know is it normal? we have been trying for about 8-9 months now, but i still get my period every month which is gutting. how long does it normally take people to fall pregnant? and do you have any tips that could get me pregnant?

if you were takin the pill - i've heard it can take a year or so for your fertility to come back, no idea if i am correct but its what i have heard. I would say keep on trying and if no bump in a year or two then go get checked out.
