How do you get a guy whos really shy and kinda nervous around you to admit how he feels about you when your just as bad yourself?

Thing is we havent had the greatest past history, and i could of and should of easily walked away from it all but i never wanted to. I've been told by afew people he likes me but hes always really shy around me like he doesnt talk that easily or anything. Im really shy myself and when hes shy it makes me worse so im trying not to be i really am but im not doing to well. Hes really confident and talkative if we're around friends but with me personally he wont talk. I cant just tell him upfront how i feel incase theres a slight chance he doesnt for whatever reason want to make a go of it. But how can you make a guy more confident round you? We go out with a group of mates quite often and i wonder if theres any hints you could give? thank you

You invite him over, create a comfortable safe place and talk... if he won't do that, your stuck.
