My friend's fallen in love with a sixth former (we're both in year 9) but he's leaving next year and she's really depressed! I don't know how to convince her to do something about it. Either tell him or forget him... basically I just want some advice on how I can help her!?!

A female reader, anonymous, writes (8 February 2009):

First of all you should make sure how much she likes him because if its just a little crush and she tells him and he rejects her, she'll be worse off than never telling him. Also, how well does she know this guy because if it's just glances in the corridor then he probably won't want anything to do with her. No offence, but guys who are, what, 16 - 17 usually don't go for girls who are 3years below them. If they're quite close, however, then she's got a better chance, obviously. But maybe you should consider telling your friend to try and move on if hes leaving. Getting herself worked up about him for him to just leave is setting her up for more heartbreak. But make sure that you tell her that if she does get hurt, she will be okay, things like this happen and she musn't let it blow out of proportion.

Hope I helped, Jen-fer :)
