A reader, anonymous, writes (27 February 2007):

It's never easy to start dating again after a lengthy relationship. One thing to consider is whether you're really "over" your ex-gf before you pursue another woman. Inevitably, things can get very messy and downright tiresome when you start seeing someone else and you're still into your old girlfriend.

In any event, if you are ready to start seeing other women, then, it's always nice if you have something in common with them. So, perhaps, you could join a film club, an art club, a s & m club (jk). Whatever you're into. Then, when you see a woman you like, you can talk about the "thing" you're both into.

If you go out bar-hopping, it's always a dodgy business. But, if you're into one-night stands, then go for it. Just try not to use one-liners and stupid cliches to meet her. It's much nicer if you just start talking about politics, music, movies, clothes, anything but stuff like, "Oh, hi, I love your sweater. I wish I were that sweater." Egads, that's pitiful.

Good luck.
