How can I tell my boyfriend to be more affectionate with me?

A female United States age 41-50, anonymous writes:

I really am being to think its me. I am with someone who bends over backwards to make sure I'm comfortable but isn't very passionate when it comes to being affectionate. When I ask him to be, he reacts in disbelief and says I get all this attention etc etc. I guess its more then he's used to giving but less then I'm used to getting...

It really bothers me that I'm not feeling it with him yet we've got so much else going for us. I just don't know if this is really grounds for leaving after 1.5 yrs. The only time I get the intensity I want from him is when we have broken up before over this. Then I take him back and he cools off again.

Please don't suggest that I should work for his attention. A woman like me shouldn't have to. I don't know how much more I can take tho. Now its getting to the point where every little thing bothers me.
