How can I love my bikini body?

A female Australia age 30-35, anonymous writes:

I hate my bikini body... and the problem is, weather's getting warmer by the day! First "problem" I have is I have a small bust. I don't like wearing push ups or padded bikinis because I feel like I'm faking it. This wouldn't be such an issue if I had something to "make up" for it. But I don't. Usually women with small breasts have nice bottoms. I don't! My bum is wide, because I have wide hips, but it has a lot of cellulite, as do my thighs. I have been working out, and I do notice muscle growth underneath the fat. But that's the thing: the fat is STILL there! The cellulite is still there, which makes my lower body look sagging, like I was 60 or 70 years old! I don't even have kids or any of that.

I can still lose 20 lbs without being underweight. I would have to lose around 30 lbs to be underweight. Maybe if I lose this weight? I mean, it's the only way to get my muscles to show more, right? I know that creams and massages don't work.

Also, what I want to know, is whether working out can really make a big differen in bum size. I want a bigger, rounder bum that sticks out more than what I currently have. My bum kind of looks big because I have wide hips, but it doesn't stick out much... I just want to know if exercise can make it possible to go from an average looking bum to a head turning, firm, round one. I'm really interested to know because that way I can make up for my lack of breasts and look a bit more decent in a swimsuit! I know this may not be possible for this swimsuit season, but maybe for the next one, I'm willing to be patient.

In the meantime, how can I ignore cellulite? Oh, how I wish to be a man sometimes, jk.

A female reader, Haileyc21 United States +, writes (12 December 2010):

Haileyc21 agony auntDon't feel too bad about this girl! I used to have the same problem. There is a solution!

Patience being number one, and I commend you for saying you are willing to be patient! Number two, don't get discouraged. Your booty probably looks way better than you give yourself credit for! Cellulite is so annoying, I can relate. I used to have it. But working out does help, very much. Believe it or not, so do massages and creams. I know a few massage therapists who are close friends of mine, and they describe cellulite as being muscle that is "clumpy." When massage is applyed (even self massage), you are helping "smooth out" the fat cells on the top layer of muscle... if that makes any sense! I have random fatty areas around my body that I have dramatically decreased through self massage, creams, and working out simultaneously. What you want to do is after working out, lay flat on your belly and massage your buttocks in cirlces as far down underneath the tissue as you possibly can. You will notice with time that your skin will begin to feel more smooth, and when you add cream on top of that the cellulite will generously decrease as well!

Another self massage I enjoy doing really helps with "shaping" the overall appearance of the booty. What you do is lay on your back, with your knees up, hands to your side. Gently rock back and forth on your booty. Do it as many times as you want. It feels amazing and it really does help!

Also, yes! You can make your booty rock hard and perky! Squats with weights is unbelievable, the stair master is brutal but works like crazy, and lunges with weights works wonders also.

I totally know what you mean when you say there is muscle underneath but the fat is still there, it means you are getting there, but you need to switch up your work out rutine! Patience, patience, patience. Changing up your work out rutine rather than doing the same thing every time is key. If you are doing the same old thing, your body is building "muscle memory" and never getting stronger. What you want to strive for is feeling so sore the next day after working out that you can barely sit down! Do more reps of exercises, and eat lots and lots of protein. Protein builds muscle, and will also help "smooth" out those annoying fat cells. Also, remember to lift weights along with cardio. Cardio is the major fat burner! And weights are for toning!

Last but not least, don't give up! You have what it takes, but keep that bikini in your mind. Give yourself positive feedback whenever you work out, having the body you want doesn't take over night. Look at yourself in the mirror and say "I'm getting there. It's not what I want yet, but soon I will get to my goal."

I have a motto.

If you want to have the body of your dreams, make sure you have realistic ideas and goals. Turn it into a lifestyle change, rather than just a temporary change.

And give yourself at least 3 months to notice a difference.

It takes 1 month to "feel" a difference, 2 months to see a "noticable" difference, and 3 months for others to "notice" a difference. After those 3 months, your body will just get closer and closer to your goal, and when it does, don't stop! Keep going with it. You can do it!

Good Luck!
