A female United States age 51-59, *assie writes:

My fiance and I have been together going on five years. We both have had nasty relationships in the past. We have been engaged now three years. Now that our lives are going into the right direction, how can I get him to the alter? He loves me with every inch of his soul, but twice biten, twice shy, for him and the past exes.

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (16 July 2008):

Well as far as he's concerned, he's committed to you, so as a woman surely that's all you want?

If he is obviously useless at this kind of thing then just don't ask him. Just do it.

But bridal magazines and when he next sits down with you just say "I was thinking about next June to set a date for the wedding, what do you think?"

He should be a little shocked but ok with it. If he starts making excuses then then remind him that you are engaged and if he still makes excuses then take your ring off and give it back to him and walk out of the room.

When he sees he could lose you over this then he might buck his ideas up.

Good Luck!! xx
