 Just smile at him when you see him, he'll know what it means. When you talking to him get close to him but not right in his face, also next time you approach him gently rub his arm to get his attention.

 It is probably not a good idea to learn how to flirt. Basically if it is not 'you' then it will just come across as a bit of an act. He must like you as you are if he bothers to speak to you and it seems like you already have a friendship. That is a good start! Maybe you could just try to direct approach - no, not a marriage proposal! Just arrange a date with him outside the school one weekend. Just ask him if he fancies seeing a movie with you??? It could be construed as 'mates' going out together but it could turn out to be a proper date.
